Set in Arizona's Superstition Mountains over a ten-year period, three best friends test their evolving relationships. Maria leaves her cowboy boyfriend Steel to follow her dream of dancing on Broadway. Years later she returns to find her friend Trudy living with Steel. Surprising revelations and startling requests are made. Tensions mount as each struggles to maintain their friendship.

While flying his kite in Central Park, a developmentally disabled man is attracted by an Albanian flutist who escaped to New York from Kosova. Although warned by his guardian aunt not to wander off with strangers, he helps the woman to her home. As each struggles to establish a relationship, the secret motivations of these three very different people are revealed. A poignant story of loss, hope and determination.
